Notice of Intent to Submit an Exceptional Event Demonstration to EPA and Opportunity for Public Comment
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) hereby gives notice of intent to submit an Exceptional Event Demonstration request to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in accordance with Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 50.14. The demonstration shows that a smoke plume from a Canadian Wildfire near Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada adversely impacted ozone concentrations in Rhode Island.
On May 25th and 26th, 2016, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) recorded concentrations of ozone at the three state ozone monitors located in East Providence, West Greenwich, and Narragansett, that exceeded the 2015 Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). The three monitors were affected by the smoke plume such that data from May 25th and May 26th, 2016 should be excluded from regulatory determinations.
RIDEM is making the draft demonstration available for public comment, as required by 40 CFR 50.14(c)(3):
