[Owrinfo] Requirements for Soil Survey Data

To all Site Development Engineers,

We have been receiving engineering reports with incorrect soil information based upon data from the USDA Soil Conservation Service (SCS) and the 1980 Soil Survey of Rhode Island.   The 1980 Soil Survey of Rhode Island that consultants refer to in their reports are no longer supported and are out of date.  The best and only place to get current and accurate information is the web soil survey at USDA.

The Assistant State Soil Scientist for RI NRCS is James Turenne (jim.turenne at ri.usda.gov<mailto:jim.turenne at ri.usda.gov>) and the website at RI NRCS (http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/main/ri/soils/) about what technical information is available and how to get to the web soil survey.

All Curve Numbers must be based upon the correct hydrologic grouping from the NRCS website.
