Announcement of Request for Proposals

The RI DEM Office of Water Resources is pleased to announce the availability of approximately $1 million to assist in the implementation of projects that protect and restore water quality from nonpoint sources (NPS) of pollution and projects that improve or restore aquatic habitat. DEM is seeking proposals that:

  *   Improve or restore aquatic habitat, including improving stream connectivity, riparian buffers and lake conditions;
  *   Mitigate stormwater pollution in areas NOT restricted by MS4 permit requirements;
  *   Replace a failing or substandard onsite wastewater treatment system, including a cesspool;
  *   Abate NPS pollution from farms; and
  *   Other projects that implement actions to prevent or abate NPS pollution or improve aquatic habitat.

Pursuant to federal guidelines for Section 319 funding, projects can only be funded in areas in which a Watershed Plan has been completed or significant progress has been made towards completing a plan.  As a result, for this RFP proposals will only be considered for projects within the following watersheds: Bristol-Kickemuit River, Barrington-Palmer-Warren Rivers, Nonquit Pond,  Aquidneck Island, Wood-Pawcatuck Rivers, and Narrow River.
