2016 Bay Scallop Season
*       Season is open from sunrise November 5, 2016 through sunset December 31, 2016.

*       From November 5, 2016 to November 30, 2016, the only legal method of bay scallop harvest is by dip-netting from a boat. Wading is prohibited to protect seed.

*       At sunrise December 1, 2016, bay scallop dredging is permitted until the end of the season. No more than six (6) single dredges, not more than twenty eight inches (28") in width, with a bag no more than thirty-six inches (36") in length, shall be towed and hauled aboard any vessel.

*       The use of bay scallop dredges is prohibited in closed areas of Shellfish Management Areas (i.e., "spawner sanctuaries") at all times.

*       Residents - No license required for recreational bay scallop harvest.

*       Non-Residents - Harvest of bay scallops is prohibited.

*       Daily recreational possession limit is 1 bushel (9 gallons) in the shell.

*       Daily commercial possession limit is 3 bushels (27 gallons) in the shell.

*       The harvest of bay scallop "seed" is prohibited. To be considered legal, a raised growth ring or ridge must be visible on the shell. There should be measurable shell growth beyond the ridge, and usually there is a distinctive color change for new growth beyond the ridge.



*       It is prohibited to shuck scallops while on the waters of the state.
*       It is prohibited to dispose of scallop shells while on the waters of the state.
