Modification to possession limits and/or seasons for marine
species regulated under quota

This notice is issued in accordance with the provisions of Section 20-1-12.1 of the Rhode Island General Laws entitled "Modification of possession limits and seasons for marine species managed under quota."

This modification is as follows:


1.    Beginning 12:00AM on Sunday, November 20, 2016 the commercial Directed Management Area 1B Atlantic Sea herring fishery will CLOSE (2,000 pounds/vessel/day bycatch limit), and will re-open January 1, 2017 (unlimited possession limit)

Possession limits are subject to modification throughout the year; it is the responsibility of the licensed fisherman to comply with possession limits and all such modifications.  Current commercial possession limits can be found by calling (401) 423-1920, or visiting the Marine Fisheries webpage at http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/bnatres/fishwild/mfsizes.htm.
