NOTICE

Modification to possession limits and/or seasons for marine
species regulated under quota

This notice is issued in accordance with the provisions of Section 20-1-12.1 of the Rhode Island General Laws entitled "Modification of possession limits and seasons for marine species managed under quotas."

This modification is as follows:


1.    Effective 12:00AM on October 20, 2016, the commercial Directed Management Area 1A Atlantic sea herring fishery will CLOSE (2,000 pounds/vessel/day bycatch limit), and will re-open January 1, 2017 (unlimited possession limit).

2.    Effective 12:00AM on October 20, 2016, the possession limit for the Coastal Sharks commercial Aggregated Large Coastal Shark (LCS) and Hammerhead Shark Management Groups will DECREASE to 25 sharks/vessel/day, until further notice.

3.    Effective 12:00AM on October 20, 2016, the possession limit for the commercial skate bait fishery will DECREASE to 9,307 pounds/vessel/day of whole weight through October 31, 2016 (remainder of Season 2), and will increase to 25,000 pounds/vessel/day on November 1, 2016.

4.    Effective November 1, 2016, the possession limit for commercial general category Scup will INCREASE to 18,000 lbs/vessel/day

Possession limits are subject to modification throughout the year; it is the responsibility of the licensed fisherman to comply with possession limits and all such modifications.  Current commercial possession limits can be found by calling (401) 423-1920, or visiting the Marine Fisheries webpage at http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/bnatres/fishwild/mfsizes.htm.
