Due to a positive shellfish toxicity screening test, effective sunrise October 20th, the harvesting of shellfish including carnivorous snails within tagging area 5C of the lower Sakonnet River is prohibited until further notice. The RIDOH has also contacted shellfish dealers to hold any shellfish from this area. Additional testing including confirmation of the screening results by HPLC analysis of domoic acid concentrations will be conducted.

Tagging area 5C includes all waters north of a line from Sachuest Point to Sakonnet Point Light and south of an east/west line across the Sakonnet River lying one quarter (1/4) mile south of the pipeline found just south of Black Point, and east of a north/south line running from Flint Point to Taggert's Ferry, in the town of Tiverton.
