NOTICE

Modification to possession limits and/or seasons for marine species regulated under quota

This notice is issued in accordance with the provisions of Section 20-1-12.1 of the Rhode Island General Laws entitled "Modification of possession limits and seasons for marine species managed under quotas."

This modification is as follows:


1.     Beginning 12:00AM on Sunday, May 14, 2017, the commercial landing and possession of Menhaden is prohibited inside the Menhaden Management Area and in state waters outside the Menhaden Management Area. The bycatch limit for non-directed gear types after this date will be 6,000 pounds per vessel per calendar day, or 12,000 pounds per vessel per calendar day when two licensed fisherman are on board the vessel.

Possession limits are subject to modification throughout the year; it is the responsibility of the licensed fisherman to comply with possession limits and all such modifications.  Current commercial possession limits can be found by calling (401) 423-1920, or visiting the Marine Fisheries webpage at http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/bnatres/fishwild/mfsizes.htm.
