Join the fishermen of Galilee on May 18 at 1:00 PM to celebrate the installation of ten new interpretive signs around the port!

The new signs communicate the history and value of the commercial fishing industry to the public. A group of the port’s fishermen conceptualized and planned the signage project in coordination with the nonprofit Eating with the Ecosystem, Rhode Island’s Department of Environmental Management, and the Town of Narragansett’s Galilee Advisory Committee. The project was made possible thanks to a Centennial Community Grant from the Rhode Island Foundation.

The event will begin at the Salty Brine State Beach parking lot in Galilee with remarks from the port's fishermen, state government, the Town of Narragansett, and the Rhode Island Foundation, followed by an unveiling of one of the new signs. A short tour of several additional signs will be followed by a reception at Champlin's Seafood Deck, where historical and present-day materials documenting the port's fishing heritage will be on view.
