BOEM HOSTING FISHING INDUSTRY MEETINGS ON NY BIGHT WIND ENERGY AREAS - PROPOSED SALE NOTICE



The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is hosting working group meetings for commercial fishermen regarding the New York Bight Proposed Sale Notice.  BOEM is specifically seeking only fishing industry participation (fishermen, fishing & processing businesses and organizations, fishing associations) in these meetings.



BOEM published the Proposed Sales Notice (PSN) for the New York Bight June 14 for a 60-day public comment period ending on August 13, 2021.  There are several aspects of the PSN that BOEM is seeking specific feedback on, including many related to the fishing industry.  To engage in a conversation directly with Bight fishermen and their representatives about this PSN, BOEM is holding a series of two-hour working meetings. The meetings are scheduled with a focus on the primary fisheries that operate in the NY Bight. However, if you are unable to attend the meeting focused on your fishery you may attend the meeting that better fits your schedule and/or the joint meeting on August 6th. A description of the effort that provides more background on the topics to be covered is attached.  While it suggests specific meeting topics given our interests, if you have additional topics you would like to cover, please let BOEM staff know (contact Brian Hooker: Brian.Hooker at boem.gov<mailto:Brian.Hooker at boem.gov>).  BOEM will also hold a later joint meeting across fisheries and gear types on August 6th in the morning to further the conversation together across fisheries.  BOEM’s goal is to develop a Final Sale Notice (FSN) that reflects the feedback obtained in response to the PSN and hopes this process can be an important step in building long term relationships with fishermen and fishery associations.
