Modification to possession limits and/or seasons for marine species regulated under quota

  1.  Beginning 12:00AM on Wednesday, June 09, 2021, the commercial Menhaden fishery in the Menhaden Management Area will CLOSE as a result of the harvest cap being fully harvested. State waters outside the Menhaden Management Area will remain open at 120,000 pounds/vessel/day due to the states participation in the ASMFC Episodic Event Set Aside (ESA) Program. While the state is participating in the ESA, all fish to be landed in the state must be harvested exclusively from RI state waters.


Possession limits are subject to modification throughout the year; it is the responsibility of the licensed fisherman to comply with possession limits and all such modifications.  Current commercial possession limits can be found by calling (401) 423-1920, or visiting the Marine Fisheries webpage at http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/marine-fisheries/mfsizes.php.
