<p class="MsoPlainText">In anticipation of moving forward with quota management for smoothhound sharks (smooth dogfish), HMS staff did a review of the dealer data. This review revealed two-thirds of the shark dealers buying smoothhounds do not have a federal
commercial shark dealer permit. According to the ASMFC 2008 Coastal Sharks Fishery Management Plan, Section 4.3.8.3, a federal commercial shark dealer permit is required to buy and sell any shark caught in state waters. Please ensure all state dealers have
the proper permits in order for the states and HMS to monitor the smoothhound quota.<o:p></o:p></p>
