Dear Fellow Community Member,

We’re reaching out to let you know that the public comment period for a new draft Stormwater General Permit for the Mashapaug Pond Watershed opens Friday.

The Mashapaug Stormwater General Permit will apply to certain properties within the Mashapaug Watershed, which also includes Spectacle and Tongue Ponds (in Cranston), with 1 acre or more of impervious surface (like rooftops, pavement, or parking lots) not currently covered by an existing permit. Affected property owners will be required to prevent, manage, and treat stormwater pollution through routine maintenance and site-specific stormwater management plans. The goal is to reduce pollution from stormwater runoff and improve water quality in the watershed.

Opens: October 10, 2025
Closes: November 21, 2025

 Earlier this summer, DEM held public workshops about the draft permit. Recordings and presentation slides from those sessions are available at the same link. Based on feedback received, DEM has made additional updates to the draft permit now available for review.
