[RI Shellfish Closures]

This is RI DEM with an emergency shellfish closure update.

The precautionary closure of Winnapaug Pond will end at Sunrise tomorrow morning (Thursday 8/26/2021).

The precautionary closure was put in place after heavy rain and coastal flooding in the area during tropical storm Henri.  Results from samples collected on Tuesday 8/24/2021 and analyzed by the RI Department of Health on 8/25/2021 demonstrated that bacteria levels in the pond were below FDA standards for safe shellfish consumption.  Based on these results the precautionary closure of Winnapaug Pond will end at sunrise on Thursday 8/26/2021.
