Dear Practitioners,

The Rhode Island Division of Taxation today posted on its website a
list of tax-preparation software vendors that have been cleared for
e-filing for tax year 2011. The list includes the products for which
each vendor has completed and passed the Tax Division’s
acceptance-testing process:

The list will be updated periodically as software is approved, so be
sure to check back.

The Tax Division has also posted the latest Administrative Decision
adopted by Rhode Island Tax Administrator David M. Sullivan. It focuses
on whether the taxpayer is subject to Rhode Island personal income tax:

On another filing season matter, the Tax Division promptly resolved a
refund issue that briefly arose in mid- to late-January. Because of a
computer problem, some taxpayers who requested direct deposit on their
e-filed returns received paper refund checks instead. The issue affected
only certain taxpayers who e-filed within a week or so after the season
began on January 18. The Tax Division quickly diagnosed the issue,
solved it, and has since been issuing refunds by direct deposit to all
eligible e-filers.
