Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to alert those who were doing book pickups about a patron who
contacted us and the issue was forwarded to me.
He claimed to be a teacher in Cranston who needed books for his class which
I was willing to oblige. His information was forwarded to me from circ
staff who fielded the call initially.
I called him back and he kept talking about a woman and her kindergarten
class. I asked him what he meant by that and he said there was a woman who
needed him to get books because he was "closer". I told him she could
contact us for the books for her class and he could get books for his own
and library cards are nontransferable etc. I kept telling him to have her
contact us. Finally, I asked "Does she live in RI?" and he admitted she did
not and he was going to be sending the books to her. I told him that we
were not going to allow this for a number of reasons (liability, library
card transference, crossing state lines, etc.) He began to backtrack and
say books were for him. He already admitted to being a middle school
teacher supposedly so Pout-Pout fish was not for his students clearly.
If you want more information about this patron please let me know.
Just another day at the library!
Good health and wellness to you all,
Rashaa
