Hello Everyone,

Anne-Marie Forer is starting a brand new program for adults who want to strengthen their storytelling skills. Please feel free to share this information to friends, interested parents, other librarians and anyone who works with children. The flyer is posted on our Facebook site perfect for social media sharing. Everyone is welcome. It is free. We will have coffee, tea, cheese and crackers and other snacks. There is plenty of parking and all of it free. It will take place at the Woonsocket Harris Public Library on Thursday January 23, 2020 7-8:30pm

Here is the description in her words.
Hello and Happy New Year! My 2020 New Year’s resolution is to gather together early childhood teachers, and caregivers who are interested in oral storytelling into an informal sharing group. The Woonsocket Harris Public Library has graciously offered me space for this group to meet monthly. I would like to invite you to join me Thursday January 23rd at 7-8:30pm for our first meeting.
The purpose of this group is to encourage oral storytelling in the classroom. I will be there to facilitate and help the group with tips and techniques that I have used for nearly 30 years to find and learn stories to tell. The agenda will include storytelling games, discussion and sharing of stories, story ideas and resources. We will help/coach each other in a positive, supportive environment. It will be a place for you to learn and try out new stories and then practice them before taking them into your classroom. We’ll also share fingerplays, songs, and ideas to catch and hold children’s attention.

Our first meeting will include getting to know one another, discussion of expectations/goals for the group, some storytelling games, and story sharing by anyone who wishes to do so. I will definitely tell a story and share resources with the group to help get us started.Of course walk-ins are always welcome.
Please note: You do not need to come with a story to tell at this or any meeting unless or until you feel comfortable telling. This is an informal group whose sole purpose is to support one another in exploring all aspects of storytelling. There are no dues expected, and participation is voluntary.
I hope you will join us. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email Anne-Marie Forerat tunesntalesinfo at gmail.com or call 401-749-6900.

PS: A little about me:
I am a storyteller and musician who has been “edu-taining” youngsters for nearly 30 years. I was a teacher and children’s librarian before becoming a full time teller. I perform at schools, libraries and festivals throughout RI, Connecticut and southern New England. I play a variety of instruments including guitar, fiddle, banjo and ukulele. I like using sign language, fingerplays, puppets, rhythm instruments, scarves, and flannel boards to enhance my stories and songs. My goal is to provide rich literacy experiences that promote language development, creative thinking, listening and focus. My program are also planned to support developmentally appropriate music and movement concepts. I recently presented a workshop, Hocus Pocus Time To Focus, at last fall’s RI Early Childhood Conference at RIC. Oral storytelling was the main topic of this workshop and judging by the enthusiastic response of the participants, I got this idea for forming and facilitating a storytelling group specifically for early childhood teachers and care givers. Hope to see you on January 23rd! If you plan to attend, please pre- register with children’s librarian Chris Goldstein at (401) 769-9044 or email her at cgoldstein at woonsocketlibrary.org. mailto:cgoldstein at woonsocketlibrary.org.

BTW I'm not just putting the word out I will also be attending her group because even though I have been doing this for 22years, just in Woonsocket, I feel I can always learn new things to put into my programs to make them even better. Hope to see at least one of you here :)
