The New England Chapter of the North American Lake Management Society and the Massachusetts Congress of Lake and Pond Associations is offering a two day seminar on addressing lake management in today’s world. Join us on May 20 and 21, 2016, at the Holiday Inn in Marlborough, MA (junction of Rt 495 and Rt 20) to hear about highly relevant issues for your lake, network with others dealing with similar issues, and gain momentum toward solving your lake’s problems. The program is well into development, but if you wish to present useful information for managing lakes, contact Ken Wagner at kjwagner at charter.net<mailto:kjwagner at charter.net>. Vendors should also contact Ken Wagner.

Topics to be covered include:

  * Algae identification and control – Friday Workshop
  * Aquatic plant identification – Friday workshop
  * LID techniques for homeowners – Friday Workshop
  *   Rooted plant control options
  * Aluminum treatments for algae control
  *   Establishing a tax district
  * Building an effective lake association
  * Calculating the tax value of a lake
  * Cost of specific plant control options
  * Available funding programs for lake management
  * Cyanobacterial monitoring and health threats
  * Shoreline erosion assessment and control

The intent is to provide information of value and immediate use to participants. We will go beyond simple case histories and available techniques, delving into proven track records, costs and funding, permitting, and organizational structures that work in lake management. This conference is about empowering people to make a difference for their lakes.
