Creating Healthy, Resilient Communities Through Green Infrastructure

We can find common ground to address climate change and improve community health and resilience by protecting our natural resources through green infrastructure (GI), sustainable development and better site design. This webinar will focus on a regional approach by the Resilient Taunton Watershed Network (RTWN) in the Taunton River watershed in SE Massachusetts that brought together numerous partners and communities to learn how to effectively use GI and LID techniques to manage stormwater, reduce flooding, and minimize drought impacts. The presenters will address their work in the Taunton watershed which included: using GIS at a regional level to identify priority areas for GI siting, and a localized web-based tool to promote sustainable development through smart bylaws and regulations.

Presenters:

Eric J. Walberg, AICP, Senior Program Leader, Climate Services Program, Manomet. Eric manages the Climate Services program at Manomet. Recent projects include the Climate Smart Land Network (over 15 million acres of forest land in North America) and development of climate change adaptation plans for multiple sites in New England. Prior to joining Manomet, Eric was the Administrator of the Physical and Environmental Planning Department of the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he focused on climate change adaptation in southeastern Virginia and oversaw the development of the first regional green infrastructure plan in the State.

Stefanie Covino, Shaping the Future of Your Community Program Coordinator, Mass Audubon, Broad Meadow Brook Conservation Center and Wildlife Sanctuary. Stefanie has a Masters of Environmental Science and Policy with extensive experience in outreach and public engagement.
