DEM ANNOUNCES PUBLIC WORKSHOP AND PUBLIC HEARING ON DRAFT STORMWATER DISCHARGE PERMIT FOR RI T.F. GREEN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
[cid:image004.jpg at 01DAE416.DC0046B0]PROVIDENCE, RI - The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is announcing that its Office of Water Resources<https://dem.ri.gov/environmental-protection-bureau/water-resources> (OWR) is holding an informal public workshop<https://dem.ri.gov/events/public-workshop-re-proposed-ripdes-permit-actions-rhode-island-tf-green-international> to discuss the reissuance of the draft Rhode Island Pollutant Discharge Elimination System<https://dem.ri.gov/environmental-protection-bureau/water-resources/permitting/ripdes> (RIPDES) permit for Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport located at 2000 Post Road, Warwick, RI. The draft permit authorizes the discharge of stormwater flows to surface waters from 17 perimeter outfalls from the Airport's storm drainage system. The draft permit is currently available for public comment, is the subject of a public hearing, and is available at OWR's RIPDES Program's webpage located at: https://dem.ri.gov/sites/g/files/xkgbur861/files/2024-07/pn-ripdes-tfgreen.pdf

* WHERE: City of Warwick Municipal Annex, Sawtooth Building Community Room, 65 Centerville Road, Warwick, RI
At the public workshop, DEM will be offering a short presentation that will include a summary of the changes between the 2024 draft permit and the 2012 permit. These proposed changes include the addition of PFAS wet weather monitoring, the addition of dry weather metals monitoring and water-quality-based permit limits, the requirement to develop and submit an Impervious Cover Reduction Plan, as well as updated Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) conditions. After the presentation, DEM will be available to address any questions or concerns from attendees. Please note that the workshop is informal and not intended to be a forum for submittal of comments into the official record regarding the draft permit. Only written comments received during the comment period, and oral testimony provided at the hearing regarding the draft RIPDES permit, will be considered part of the record.
