<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">From energy demand to river and stream drawdown and discharge of pollutants, our centralized water infrastructure visits severe consequences on nature. And yet all our assessments of water and water
infrastructure have as their basis these same centralized systems. The assumption is, of course, that we cannot afford to change. In fact, however, change away from these systems is essential if we are to manage climate change flooding and drought, reduce
greenhouse gases, restore surface waters, and build sustainable cities. Sustainability must include restoration of natural systems. In this presentation, we will look at Charles River Watershed Association’s work over seven years to explore and test a new
approach to water infrastructure that is both financially desirable and environmentally essential.
