<p class="MsoNormal">Dear Save the Lakes Members:<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Save The Lakes has been busy since our Annual Meeting in April. We have assisted<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">with fishing tournaments, children's fishing tournaments, and classroom poster<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">contests for Earth Day! STL has awarded many savings bond and fishing poles to<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">children. The children especially "love" receiving a fishing pole donated by the Bass<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Pro Shop. Bassmasters are to be credited with their fine efforts helping young fishing<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">enthusiasts at the Johnston Memorial Park Tournament. How great it is to watch a child<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">catch their first fish, no matter what the size or weight.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">There are many fresh water bodies around our state that need protecting, improving<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">and preserving. As an organization, STL tries to assist by offering support and<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">encouragement where possible. Members have expressed concern regarding invasive<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">weeds, lakeside pollution, soil erosion, removal of dams, drawdowns, development of<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">property around lakes, water quality, run off from roads, fertilizers, and boat ramps to<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">name a few. Although the degree of these concerns may vary among lakes, STL has a<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">universal concern about the spread of invasive weeds. So to help all lakes, we are<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">working to develop a statewide Boat Greeters Program. This would allow people to<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">inspect all water craft at a public boat ramp for "Hitchhikers", invasives, before and/or<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">after entering a body of water. All other New England states have this program- Rhode<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Island is the only state without boat inspection programs. This coming year a goal is to<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">get a law passed to protect fresh water from invasives entering as hitchers.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Next March, we are again planning our Annual Event at the Bass Pro Shop where STL<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">celebrates fresh water across New England. Blue Green Algae, Dam removal, and<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">water quality continue to be discussed as topics of great concern here and at other<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">future forums.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Save the Lakes knows of many concerns that need to be addressed. Your active<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">membership is needed now to address these needs and great concerns. Join the STL<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Board at their next meeting on Tuesday, December 4, from 6:30 to 8:00 p. m.,<o:p></o:p></p>
