<p style="background:white"><span style="color:#212121">Finding space for stormwater management infrastructure in New England cities can be a challenge, but public streets offer a unique opportunity: create a “green street,” which
<span style="background:white">incorporates vegetation, soil, and engineered systems to slow, filter, and cleanse stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces.
</span>Green streets include a wide variety of design elements, including street trees, permeable pavements, bioretention cells, and swales. These elements improve water quality, reduce street flooding, and improve overall community health and prosperity.
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="Default">This webinar will showcase the City of Burlington, Vermont’s Great Streets Initiative, which has created a vibrant, walkable, and environmentally sustainable urban center. The City formally launched this effort with the redevelopment of two
blocks of St. Paul Street between 2018 and 2019. Speakers will showcase creative solutions to many challenges faced during the construction process, including contaminated soils, limited construction space, and a dense network of aging subsurface utilities.
This presentation will cover best practices and innovative strategies for creating a green streetscape that has significantly improved stormwater management for the city’s combined sewer system.<o:p></o:p></p>
