Attention all OWTS and Freshwater Wetlands Licensed Designers and Design Professionals:

In an effort to improve customer service and streamline workflow, the Office of Water Resources (OWR) has launched improvements to the structure of our phone system.  Please use the following program specific phone numbers and carefully listen to the new menu options.

To contact the Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Program, please call (401) 222-3961
If you know the extension of the person you are trying to reach, you must dial '1' before their extension.  (OWR Staff list<http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/water/staff/> lookup)
Designers calling for inspections or to notify the office about starts of construction may bypass the menu prompts by pressing '3' to speak with a member of the OWTS administrative support team.

Online Permit Search Tools:

*         OWTS Permit Application Search BEFORE 1990<https://www.ri.gov/app/dem/owts_historic_search> - [Records previously stored on microfilm] - Most files for applications received after April 1968 that were conformed before 1990 are available for download.  Additional records for expired files (not conformed) may also be available by searching through paper log books located in our Providence office during regular business hours<http://www.dem.ri.gov/directions/>. RIDEM does not have records for any cesspools<http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/benviron/water/permits/isds/pdfs/cessfaqs.pdf>.

*         OWTS Permit Application Search AFTER 1990<https://www.ri.gov/DEM/isdssearch/> - Permit status and historical information for most applications submitted after 1990 to present are available and are updated daily.  Conformed files for a permit application may be downloaded, if any have been digitized for the searched application. New files are added daily as part of a scheduled process and per request.

*         FWW Permit Application Search<https://www.ri.gov/DEM/wetlands/> - Permit status and historical information for applications submitted after April 1994 to present are available and are updated daily. Plans and determination letters are available for download on most decisions made after January 2007. These files are usually posted only after a final decision is made on the application.
