Good morning,

I am sorry that your grant was not renewed but I appreciate all of the hard work and positive momentum you have built towards suicide prevention in Rhode Island. Best to you in your next position Travis.

Hello Everyone,

I have some important news regarding the RI Department of Health to share that will unfortunately impact the RI Higher Education Suicide Prevention Advisory Group (RIHESPAG) moving forward. The first is that I recently accepted a different position elsewhere in the Department of Health and will be officially transitioned out of my current role in the Youth Suicide Prevention Program as of August 4th, 2019. The second and much sadder news is that the RI Department of Health has not received continued funding of the RI Youth Suicide Prevention Program from the U.S Substance and Mental Health Services Administration and therefore in the absence of these funds will shutter most direct youth suicide prevention activities as of 9/29/19. While there is the chance of obtaining funding to re-start the program in 2020, at this time we will need to put the RIHESPAG group on indefinite hiatus until such a time where sufficient staffing resources can be identified to support the group moving forward. If by any chance any institution is willing to talk on the facilitation/leadership of this group moving forward, you can reach out to me directly to see what we can arrange before I move on to my new position. The email listserv will also continue to remain active during this indefinite hiatus, so you can still feel free to use the rihespag at listserve.ri.gov<mailto:rihespag at listserve.ri.gov> email address to send out information, questions, or resources to your colleagues.

Thank you all for the time and effort you put into this group. I can say without question that the meetings we held lead to some valuable youth suicide prevention work and provided great insights for our program and others who seek to reduce the burden of suicide among college students. I also want everyone to know that despite the loss of funding, Jeffrey Hill (Jeffrey.Hill at health.ri.gov<mailto:Jeffrey.Hill at health.ri.gov>) will continue to be available for limited youth suicide prevention support, resources, and/or data moving forward.

I have greatly enjoyed my time working with all of you on this important topic. While I am moving to a new position in emergency preparedness/management at the Department, any of you can feel free to reach out to me at the same email address (travis.vendetti at health.ri.gov<mailto:travis.vendetti at health.ri.gov> ) if I can be of any assistance moving forward.

Thank you again for all of the important work you do every day, I wish you all the absolute best.

Best Regards,

Travis Vendetti
