Please find the attached permit application for the 2017 RI State waters Atlantic fishing permit. The permit is required to possess greater than 2,000 lbs of Atlantic Herring while fishing in RI state waters.  Those interested should fill out the application and return it to DEM Marine Fisheries (fax and email attachment are accepted).   Permits will be provided via email or regular mail.  2016 permits are valid only through Dec 31, 2016.  Also attached is our notice to fishermen fishing state waters.



Please be advised that RI is still participating in the MADMF/SMAST river herring avoidance program.  Please visit the following link which shows the avoidance charts: http://www.umassd.edu/smast/bycatch/.  Contributing to and using the charts should cut back on river herring bycatch harvest and extend the fishing season by not consuming the NOAA Fisheries River herring Area 2 bycatch cap too quickly.
