Subject: sea2shore Cable Crossing Matting Locations

Supplemental protection (articulated concrete mats) has been placed over the two active in-service telecommunication cables shown on the NOAA nautical charts (CB-1 and TAT-12).  This protective matting is required to maintain the integrity of the existing telecommunication cables, and was an approved/permitted activity as part of the sea2shore: The Renewable Link (formerly referred to as the Block Island Transmission System, "BITS") project. The attached figures provide the northing and easting coordinates of the supplemental protection where the sea2shore submarine cable is being installed over the existing cables (CB-1 and TAT-12).  This same locational information is provided in latitude and longitude on the below chart.  The articulated concrete mat specification is also provided for reference.  Please note, once the sea2shore cable is installed over the existing telecommunication cables additional matting will be placed to protect both cables.  These reference points will be provided once the activity is complete.

In the event that there is shallow burial depth of the sea2shore cable (defined as less than 4 feet burial in the permits), and additional supplemental protection may be required outside of these two cable crossing locations, The Narragansett Electric Company will meet with the permit agencies and Fisheries Liaison to determine the course of action prior to the installation of any additional matting.
