Hello,

The RI Marine Fisheries Council is seeking candidates to serve on the Council's Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) and Shellfish Advisory Panel (SAP).

Both committees provide advice and recommendations on proposed regulatory matters pertaining to marine fisheries management in Rhode Island.

The IAC provides coordination among commercial fisheries sectors and advises the Council and the DEM Director on matters that affect commercial fishing in RI as a whole, with particular focus on commercial licensing. Membership is comprised of representatives from the various commercial fisheries sectors in RI; membership also includes one representative from the recreational fisheries sector and one from the for-hire sector, for the purpose of incorporating the perspectives of those sectors when considering commercial fisheries issues. IAC members should be knowledgeable on the issues brought before the committee, drawing upon input from a broad cross-section of individuals from the sector or user group they represent. There are currently 9 members serving on the IAC; the Council is interested in appointing up to 6 additional members. The IAC meets at least once annually -- in July or August -- to review DEM's annually updated Sector Management Plans and to discuss and/or propose recommendations for regulatory changes to commercial licensing regulations. Additional meetings are scheduled as necessary.

The SAP reviews and provides recommendations to the Council on all RI shellfish-related management and regulatory issues, including shellfish management areas and harvest schedules. The SAP also reviews and provides recommendations regarding all aquaculture lease applications submitted to the CRMC. Membership is comprised of individuals representing a broad array of commercial and recreational shellfish interests in RI. Membership may also include other relevant interests or user groups, as the Council sees fit. Recognizing that commercial aquaculture operations may compete with a range of marine fishery activities in addition to shellfishing, the Council may appoint SAP members who represent fishery interests other than shellfishing. There are currently 9 members serving on the SAP; the Council is interested in appointing up to 6 additional members. The SAP generally meets 3 - 4 times per year.

Individuals interested in applying for a seat on either committee should complete and submit the attached application form. Current membership and contact information is also provided should you wish to speak with a panel member or Chair. Applications will be reviewed and considered by the Council at their next regularly scheduled meeting, on October 2, 2017.

Thank you
