[Rimarinefisheries] Commercial possession limits for commonly harvested species starting January 1, 2018

NOTICE

Modification to possession limits and/or seasons for marine species regulated under quota


This notice is issued in accordance with the provisions of Section 20-1-12.1 of the Rhode Island General Laws entitled "Modification of possession limits and seasons for marine species managed under quotas."

This modification is as follows:


  1.  Effective 12:00AM on Monday, January 1, 2018, the commercial possession limit for Black sea bass will be 500 pounds per vessel per week, until further notice.
  2.  Effective 12:00AM on Monday, January 1, 2018, the commercial fishery Menhaden in the Menhaden Management Area will be CLOSED.
  3.  Effective 12:00AM on Monday, January 1, 2018, the commercial possession limit for Menhaden in state waters outside the Menhaden Management Area will be Unlimited.
  4.  Effective 12:00AM on Monday, January 1, 2018, the commercial possession limit for Scup general category and floating fish traps will be 50,000 pounds per vessel per day.
  5.  Effective 12:00AM on Monday, January 1, 2018, the commercial possession fishery Striped bass general category and floating fish traps will be CLOSED.
  6.  Effective 12:00AM on Monday, January 1, 2018, the commercial possession limit for Summer flounder will be 100 pounds per vessel per day, until further notice.
  7.  Effective 12:00AM on Monday, January 1, 2018, the commercial fishery Tautog will be CLOSED, until further notice.

Possession limits are subject to modification throughout the year; it is the responsibility of the licensed fisherman to comply with possession limits and all such modifications.  Current commercial possession limits can be found by calling (401) 423-1920, or visiting the Marine Fisheries webpage at http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/fish-wildlife/marine-fisheries/mfsizes.php.
