Modification to possession limits and/or seasons for marine species regulated under quota

This notice is issued in accordance with the provisions of Section 20-1-12.1 of the Rhode Island General Laws entitled "Modification of possession limits and seasons for marine species managed under quotas."

This modification is as follows:


  1.  Effective 12:00AM on Sunday, July 16, 2017, the commercial general category Striped Bass fishery will CLOSE, until the fishery re-opens September 10, 2017 at 5 fish/person/day, or 5 fish/vessel/day.  Please be reminded that the fishery is closed on Friday and Saturday each week.
  2.  Beginning 12:00AM on Sunday, July 16, 2017, the commercial possession limit for Coastal Sharks - Aggregated Large Coastal and Hammerhead Shark species groups, will be thirty-six (36) sharks per vessel per day, until further notice.

Possession limits are subject to modification throughout the year; it is the responsibility of the licensed fisherman to comply with possession limits and all such modifications.  Current commercial possession limits can be found by calling (401) 423-1920, or visiting the Marine Fisheries webpage at http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/bnatres/fishwild/mfsizes.htm.
