NOTICE

Modification to possession limits and/or seasons for marine species regulated under quota

This notice is issued in accordance with the provisions of Section 20-1-12.1 of the Rhode Island General Laws entitled "Modification of possession limits and seasons for marine species managed under quotas."

This modification is as follows:


  1.  Effective 12:00AM on Thursday, July 13, 2017, the commercial landing and possession of Menhaden is prohibited in the Menhaden Management Area, and in state waters outside the Management Area, except as specified in the bycatch provision below, until further notice.

The bycatch limit for non-directed gear types after this date, in the Menhaden Management Area and in State waters outside the Menhaden Management Area, will be 6,000 pounds per vessel per day, or 12,000 pounds per vessel per day when two licensed fishermen are on board the vessel.

Possession limits are subject to modification throughout the year; it is the responsibility of the licensed fisherman to comply with possession limits and all such modifications.
