[Rimarinefisheries] Summer Flounder Certificate Exemption Program - PROGRAM UPDATES - ACTION REQUIRED FOR ALL CURRENT CERTIFICATE HOLDERS!

Please be advised that rules were recently filed regarding changes to the Summer Flounder Exemption Certificate Program<https://rules.sos.ri.gov/regulations/part/250-90-00-14/11078>, resulting from proposed rules that were publicly noticed May 1 - May 31, 2020 and subject to a RI Marine Fisheries Council meeting on June 1, 2020.  Please note the following significant changes to this program resulting from this filing:


  *   Exemption Certificate Expiration:  All existing Summer Flounder Exemption Certificates will expire on December 31, 2020.
  *   Exemption Certificate Renewal:  Summer Flounder Exemption Certificates must be renewed for 2021.  A notarized application for certificate renewal must be submitted by vessel owners and received by the Department or postmarked no later than September 1, 2020.  Certificates deemed valid by the Department will be renewed and issued to vessels no later than December 31, 2020.  The renewal application is attached and is also available on the Division's website here<http://www.dem.ri.gov/programs/marine-fisheries/forms-permits.php>.

Renewal notices and applications will be mailed to all certificate holders to addresses on file with the Department.  Please be reminded that it is the responsibility of the licensee/certificate holder to maintain a valid current address with the Department.
