Calling all GIS Coordinators, Public Works Directors, Engineers, and anyone who tracks city assets...

Please join us for the RI GIS Municpal Users Group September workshop on Asset Management on September 20th from 9-1 at the Cranston Public Library. Four speakers will give presentations on various Asset Management strategies, followed by a general Q and A panel discussion with plenty of time for comments, discussion and advice. The event will conclude with vendor presentations on different options from CityWorks, Vueworks, GreenCitys and DudeSolutions.

The speakers for the event are:

Shelby Southworth, Kent County Water Authority - Using the most basic ESRI software licenses and a workforce equipped with tablets/smartphones, KCWA has addressed some asset management needs on a budget and preserved the knowledge of an aging work-force. Uses such as tracking the status of street lights, planning weekly landscaping of city green spaces for Parks and Recreation department, and inspecting the functionality of fire hydrants will be discussed.

Shane White, RIDOT - RIDOT has been successfully using an asset management system called VueWorks from DTS for many years. Implementation for some groups has lead to increased interest by management at many levels to improve their group's workflows and adoption of technology. Our discussion will focus on the core components of this system and how we are applying it towards the goal of maintaining a complete system to support the life cycle of RIDOT assets.

Sam Swartwout - Tighe and Bond -How to configure your GIS to track maintenance and work activities using ArcGIS Online and the collector and survey 123 applications. Case studies include catch basin cleaning, hydrant flushing, outfall inspections, and daily facility inspections.

Bob Shea - Town of Falmouth, MA. How Falmouth has and hasn't used the VueWorks application to nearly its potential and some of the reasons that may have occurred.
