Hello Danielle,

The URI Center for Nonviolence celebrates 10 years of hosting the Rhode Island 8th Grade Gandhi Essay Contest 2020, inviting all 8th graders in the state to write an essay about a given Gandhi quote and connect it to themselves and their school community. Students have reported that a deep study of Gandhi has been transformational in their thinking and interactions with others.

In the past, librarians at RI public libraries have posted our flyer on bulletin boards to inform 8th graders about the contest and give them guidelines and the link to our website for more details. This is especially important for home-schooled students who will not have the opportunity to learn about the contest at school.

This year we are striving to promote the contest more electronically. I’m attaching a flyer and ask that you distribute this to all librarians to print and post on the bulletin board at each RI public library.
