Modification of commercial possession limits for marine species managed under quota

This notice is issued in accordance with the provisions of Section 20-1-12.1 of the Rhode Island General Laws entitled "Modification of possession limits and seasons for marine species managed under quotas."

This modification is as follows:


1.    Beginning 12:00AM on Thursday, May 19, 2016, the commercial landing of menhaden in RI is prohibited (a 6,000 pound per vessel per calendar day bycatch limit is allowed to be landed after this date).  The commercial possession limit inside the Menhaden Management Area remains 120,000 pounds per vessel per day until further notice, but cannot be landed in RI.

Please note that RI is submitting paperwork to engage in the Episodic Event Program.  We hope to have our participation confirmed in short order and will reopen the state to landing above the bycatch limit at that time.

Possession limits are subject to modification throughout the year; it is the responsibility of the licensed fisherman to comply with possession limits and all such modifications.
